The Burmese American Resource Network (BARN) offers professional interpretation services for languages spoken across Myanmar, helping individuals, families, and organizations in the Frederick, Maryland area and beyond communicate clearly and with confidence.
Services Offered
Phone & Remote Interpretation Available for telehealth appointments, phone consultations, virtual meetings, and other remote needs. Available by scheduled appointment.
In-Person Interpretation Available for court hearings, medical visits, school conferences, community events, workplace settings, and more. Advance scheduling required.
Become an Interpreter with BARN
Are you bilingual and passionate about helping your community? BARN is always looking for qualified interpreters to join our growing network.
To become a BARN-certified interpreter, all candidates are required to complete our interpreter qualification exam, which assesses both language proficiency and the ability to communicate accurately in professional settings. Passing this exam is required before being placed with any client or organization.
We are proud that many of our interpreters come directly from within our own community including graduates and advanced students from BARN's English Language Program. If you are currently enrolled in our English Program and approaching graduation or the advanced level, you may be eligible to begin the interpreter certification process. This is a great opportunity to turn your language skills into meaningful work while continuing to serve the Burmese American community.

Our Commitment to Confidentiality
At BARN, we understand that the conversations our interpreters are present for are often deeply personal, sensitive, and private. Every BARN interpreter is required to sign a strict confidentiality and non-disclosure agreement before being placed with any client or organization.
This agreement prohibits our interpreters from sharing, discussing, or disclosing any information obtained during an interpretation session with any third party ,including family members, friends, or community members. This obligation applies during and after their time working with BARN.
Any interpreter found to be in violation of this confidentiality agreement will be immediately and permanently removed from BARN's interpreter network. They will also be disqualified from working with any partner organization, affiliate, or entity associated with BARN. We take this commitment seriously because we believe every person we serve deserves to be heard in a safe, trusted, and confidential environment.
